Learn MoreWho We Are
Our organization was established in 2009 with the goal of bringing the remembrance of Prophet Muhammad (PBUHH) and the Ahlul Bayt (AS) to the greater Baltimore area. Since the beginning of this journey, we have centered equity and accessibility in our mission.
We have continuously attempted to remove obstacles in practicing faith with the utmost freedom for our community members. Everything we do is to uphold our three tenets, all of which stem from the roots and branches of the Twelver Shia Muslim school of thought. In order to have the message of the Ahlulbayt (AS) travel throughout generations, we work collectively to create an environment that is welcoming and reflective.
What We Do
For the greater part of a decade, we have been having regular Thursday programs as an Anjuman to come together to recite Hadith-e-Kisa and Dua-e-Kumayl as was taught to us by our Imams (AS). Throughout the years, our community members have grown inseparable — and we learned through the pandemic when weekly calls were still exchanged by everyone to stay in touch.
In an effort to teach our youth the tenets and ideologies of azadari and Twelver Shia Islam, we have organized two youth programs. Through weekly meetings, students ages four and up work with mentors on religious education, math, science, reading skills through study hall, and discuss mental health and engaging topics through circle times.
Commemorating the sacrifices of the Ahlul Bayt (AS) through majlis, matam, and remembrance programs.
Religious education for youth covering Islamic studies, Quran, and the teachings of the Imams (AS).
Who We Serve
"I ask You by Your Truth and Your Holiness and the greatest of Your Attributes and Names, that You make my times in the night and the day inhabited by Your remembrance, and joined to Your service and my works acceptable to You, so that my works and my litanies may all be a single litany and my occupation with Your service everlasting."
— Dua e Kumayl
As a close-knit community, we have the privilege of knowing one another closely and thus being able to serve one another cyclically. Whether it is a Muharram ashra program or a celebratory Jashan, different community members volunteer to cook, clean up, or help their peers in need.
Food donations to organizations working to address food insecurity and food desert-based issues in the Baltimore area have been made many times. We are currently working to start a youth-based service program in which older students coordinate service activities for our youth cohort — wishing to have our children initiate the manifestation of justice into our lives instead of only learning it through scripture.

Sadaqah Jariyah
Whether through a monthly, annual, or one-time donation, we encourage all followers of Imam Hussain (AS) to take advantage of this opportunity of sadaqah jariya — the continuous charity. So our community is able to utilize our new space and take full advantage of the amenities to complete our mission, the good deeds of our donors will continue to increase. All donations made to the fund will go directly towards our center. Anjuman Gulistan e Zahra (SA) appreciates every penny put towards our goal and we pray that Bibi Zahra (SA) returns it to each donor tenfold.
